Contemporary TV Stands

Contemporary literally means “of our time” or “Belonging to the same period of time”.

When used in regards to furniture, it means furniture that is in the style of our present designs trends – the modern decorative styles of the 21st century.

The current style is sleek, clean, minimalistic designs created in chrome, stainless steel, light colored woods such as beech, and of course glass. The whole design can be referred to as modernistic.

Another distinct characteristic of current technology and furnishings are beveled (curved) edges – and very glossy (glass like) finishes.

Almost all manufactures are producing contemporary TV stands – to match the sleek designs of the new flat screen TVs – such as the large screen plasma and LCD TVs.

Many television manufactures produce TV stands to match the model of the TV set.

Some of the larger manufactures are listed below:

• LG –at present are mostly producing very sleek glossy black flat screen televisions. This is matched by black TV stands typically with 2 shelf’s and chrome legs to support the weight of the television and other devices.
   
• Panasonic – produce silver or black television set, and frequently low designed stands. Panasonic do however produce many televisions specifically designed to match a single TV stand. • Sony – the most recent TV stand by Sony is a large, low down, sharp edged black rectangular design. It features short legs and two shelves. To most people, this could be mistaken as a typical modern television stand, but it also features an integrated surround sound system.

The main television producers listed here are not the only manufactures available, but if your television is by one of the above brands, it could be an idea purchase a stand from the same manufacture. Branded TV stands can be more expensive – especially compared to the generic stands available. But top manufactures will be on the cutting edge of contemporary design, and could be of a higher quality then the cheaper alternatives.

When choosing your TV stand always make sure that it will match your room décor. A Contemporary design may look fantastic in the showroom/catalogue or website, but that high gloss black box may look out of place in your traditional farmhouse cottage. One of the main advantages of plasma or LCD screens is the ability to wall mount the display – this can insure that the screen does not look out of place in any furnishings, you do have to remember however, that you will still need to have a location to store your other devices such as your DVD player, bluray player, sat/cable box, and any other appliance you have.
